How does 1099-a form work do you usually receive a 1099-c.

You can find instructions concerning 1099-A (Aquisition or Abandonment of Secured Property) and 1099-C (Cancellation of Debt) here: http://www.irs.gov/instructions/i1099ac/ar02.html

It looks like if both events occur during the same calendar year you need file only the 1099-C.

So if I don't get the 1099-c does that mean the debt not cancelled.

I'm not sure, and am not an expert in this area. Did you ask your lender? What did they say?
